Sonic's Progression through the Nintendo Wii

Discussion in 'General Gaming' started by JackitK, Jan 2, 2012.

  1. So it's taken awhile but Sonic seems like it's getting better and better now.

It did have a rough start on the Wii with Secret Rings (Which I honestly didn't think was as bad as people say) and Black Knights. But when you compare them to recent games they kind-of acted as a foundation or a test-run of a new formula which would eventually become what it is in Colors and Generations today.

Sonic Unleashed pretty much "fixed" a lot of the problems with the past Wii Sonic games. Although Werehog did disappoint a lot of people. Sonic Colors, in my eyes perfected the whole formula of a Sonic game. Well it's not a perfect game but it's a lot better than it was back in the Secret Rings day.

So what do you guys think of the Wii Sonic games? Secret Rings better than people give it credit for? Actually like Unleashed better than Colors? Got something else to say? Share your thoughts with us.
  2. I haven't made a full purchase of a Sonic game since Sonic Heroes back in 2005, and after getting a taste of many of today's Sonic games, like Unleashed, Colors, and Generations, I don't regret it

I don't care how good Colors or Generations is in critics' or fellow gamers' minds. IMO, Modern Sonic's 3-dimensional gameplay is clunky, glitchy, stiff, and overwhelmingly too straight-forward, with not enough 3D platforming, just a straight line for you to boost through.

Adventure, Adventure 2, and Heroes had great 3D platforming, and free-roaming 360-degree controls that allow for the sharpest turning, making Sonic feel more agile like he's supposed to be.

Unless Sega makes another Sonic game with controls like Adventure/2/Heroes, brings Super Monkey Ball back to its roots, or make a new system, then they will never get another cent from me.

Sad to say, but Sega is dead to me as of the beginning of the 7th generation of video games (2005) (DS/PSP/Xbox 360/PS3/Wii), and IMO, the 7th gen is by far the worst generation of video gaming ever.
I do hope Sega can come back from the grave in this new 8th generation though (3DS/PS Vita/Wii U/NextBox/PS4) Because atm the generation is shaping out rather nicely.

I don't know, for me Sonic's best Wii outing was Secret Rings by far. And I really didn't 'get' Colours, it just seemed pretty bland to me.

Colors was the ONLY good Sonic game on the WII but Sonic Generations looks good.
  6. Colors and Generations are both pretty awesome games. Turbo Pikachu, let me tell ya, the way that those game's control Modern Sonic can be finished with little effort, but taking the time to memorize the stage and honing your reflexes to get better times and take alternate paths is what makes the game replayable. It's also captures the sense of speed and control, as opposed to the older games (which I love) but had to choose one or the other most of the time.

Really though, if you imagine the best gameplay from games like Sonic Adventure 2 and make it the whole game, then you have what Colors and Generations are.
